Thalassa
Azem, the Traveller

Spoiler Content: Endwalker (MSQ)

Birthplace: The Unsundered World
Age: Incalculable
Occupation: The Traveller, Shepherd to the Stars in the Dark
Interests: Culture, language, adventuring, sea-life
Identity: Any
Once a Word of Mitron, Thalassa had a particular talent for microbiology - a talent which she channeled into populating the oceans of the world with sealife.
However, once Venat retired, Thalassa was horrified that her two mentors - Venat and Mitron - had both recommended her name to take over the Seat of Azem. Unable to avoid the increased responsibility, she took the role begrudgingly, doing her best to prove herself unsuitable for it via malicious compliance - until the Final Days struck, and she spent the remainder of her days trying to save as many lives as she could.
In the modern day, her influence is felt starkly in her Sundered counterpart, Shio - it is Thalassa's aether that causes Shio's hair and one of her eyes to turn white. Her legacy weighs heavily upon the Kojin, who spends her every day trying to live up to the legendary Traveller.

The Elementals of the Shroud were grateful for her for trying to care for them even as the city fell into disrepair and ruin, and blessed her with agelessness - and then, once the Padjal started to be born, they promptly seemed to forget about her, no longer answering her cries or speaking to her (although she can still overhear them).
Considering her life to be over, she renamed herself Ak-Nupe, in accordance with the way to refer to the dead in Gelmorran culture, and now, the deeply upset and abandoned-feeling healer roams the Shroud outside of Gridanian settlements, unwilling to set a single foot inside the city that took her home and her life from her.

Once reaching the continent of Eorzea, he immediately set out to find what his vision was driving him towards, and has not had any luck so far. Eventually, she left her tribe, and struck out into the world. After travelling for a time, she found herself in Radz-at-Han, where a combination of the medicine from the alchemists and the bright, warm, dry weather helped her lungs, and now she plies her trade as an amazing songwriter for hire, despite her lack of voice. Aoede Menis
Battle-Singer

Spoiler Content: None

Birthplace: Mor Dhona
Age: 30-35
Occupation: Unemployed
Interests: Fighting, fucking, feasting
Unusual traits: The Echo
Identity: Apathetic (she/her most often, but she will accept anything)
Has the Echo and has fought gods - doesn't realise the significance of this because is just completely unconnected from the MSQ and the information around it. But is the type of person who, when the Amalj'aa tried to kidnap her and take her to see Ifrit, snarked (with a very coarse tongue) at Ifrit and decked him in the face "Your god is awfully fuckin' cocky considering he's in face-decking range" A combination of traits, on a layered basis, drive her. On the very surface level, she likes to scrap, and the gods are the only things that are fights worth properly waking up for On a slightly deeper level, she sings - and she is most inspired when her blood is pumping and soul is singing, so she seeks adrenaline rushes On a level so deep she wouldn't admit it aloud, she notices that if the gods are manifested, the land dies - she lives in the wilderness, and she does care about it. She also, finally, likes to fuck people she saves, who she refers to as her "damsels in distress", no matter what other context exists.

Identity: Male (he/him)
Tenth son of Cemi. All his older siblings were given trades or professions, from family friends - one was taught to be a blacksmith, one a hunter, one a chef, etc etc. Tan, as his siblings called him, however, was unlucky - his family had no favours left to call, no friends left to train him, so he was given the choice of working for one of his siblings, or going to find his own future. Prideful bastard that he was, Cemi'tan immediately set off. Going as far as he could before what food his mother gave him ran out, he found himself in Ul'dah. Bright and completely unlike the forest he was used to, he did odd jobs for a time before he found himself on the Bloodsands. Having twenty older siblings had made him fast, and vicious. He was good in a scrap like none of his siblings were, but this trait had never served him well back in the Shroud - his mother wanted peaceful jobs for her children. On the Bloodsands, however, he was able to conquer. Ascending quickly, he underwent every training regimen he could - in the Forest, he was Tan, but on the Sands, he was Cemi the Titan - Titan of the Sands.

They found their way to the West, where they ultimately wound up being attacked by Ishgardians who were far afield on a skirmish with the Dravanians. As the only survivor of their family, they found herself just wandering nomadically - Hiding their apperance as much as they can in public to avoid any potential future such incidents, and getting close to very few to spare themself the emotional pain.

Age: 20-25
Occupation: Engineer, Student

Unusual traits: Heavily scarred on half her body, ceruleum-burned hands, blinded eye
Identity: Female (she/her)
Statera Numen was born in the small village of Ala Gannha to a mother who died in childbirth and a father who died not long after. Adopted by the collective community, she was a very curious little child, wandering the village and sticking her nose and hands everywhere. Mainly, she found herself helping on the farms - working with the people whose job it was to eke a living out of the arid land. Planting crops, breaking rocks, moving stumps - gruelling labour for vanishingly small returns.
When she was about fifteen or sixteen, there was one day when a Garlean convoy came through the area she had just spent sixteen hours tilling and planting with the farmers. A Magitek walker - a behemoth of iron and steel, spewing sparks - came tromping through, and in seconds, destroyed the crop that had taken so long to plant. And Statera's mind, always more tuned to metal and gears, began to whir.
If such a machine could destroy a crop so easily, surely that same strength could be turned to planting a crop. Machines were not inherently destructive - they were just tools. And so, she has spent her life since trying to learn how to make that happen. Reckless but fiercely intelligent, she has injured herself heavily, but learned from every such mistake.

Immediately, the Sekiseigumi pinned a myriad of crimes upon him, and Tama was forced to hide out in the gang hideouts in the sewers. His entire life uprooted, he became extremely jaded and now lives as a healer for the underground elements of the city of Kugane, asking no questions and respected by all factions of the various crime families and syndicates.

Chikiri

Spoiler Content: Stormblood (MSQ)

Birthplace: Prism Lake
Age: 20-25
Occupation: Poet
Interests: Dango, Nature, Strength
Identity: Female (any)
Born under Garlean occupation into a family of seven, Chikiri watched as her older siblings were all, one by one, either conscripted or killed by Garleans - and she wanted none of it. Spending the remainder of the occupation trying to hide from Garlean patrols, with only one Viera for company, Chikiri wrote poetry - heart-wrenching, emotional poetry, depicting the pain and desolation of the occupation in uncompromising, stark terms.
Once the occupation ended, she found, to her furious anger, that the Doman people as a whole did not want her poetry - preferring to ignore the occupation and act like it never happened, an act that offended Chikiri - and so, now she spends her days fighting to get her poetry recognised as valid and important artistic expression, a task she'd rather not have to do - she is a poet, not a diplomat.

Birthplace: Bozja
Age: 25-30
Occupation: Lounge Singer
Interests: Music, spicy food
Identity: Female (she/her)
Born in Bozja a scant few years before the Bozja incident, a mere quirk of fate led to the young Muzathgara being away from the country at the time of the incident - having been sent by her parents to Thavnair for a music camp.
Her parents never arrived to collect her, and while the Hannish music teachers kept her safe for a time, they could not support her forever - and so she, as well as the other children who were left orphans by the Incident, were given into the care of an orphanage.
However, for Muzathgara and her best friend Nijole both chafed at the orphanage and struck out on their own, finding their way into the jungles of Thavnair, where they were taken in and raised by the Hippo Riders of the deep jungle.
Upon reaching her late teens, this lifestyle too was too stifling for the young woman, and so Muz left again - taking Nijole with her - and went to make her own way in the world, finding work as a travelling singer, going from city to city and performing at each.

Birthplace: Bozja
Age: 65-70
Occupation: Retired Queensguard
Interests: Novels, travelling
Identity: Male (he/him)
Once a Queensguard to the Hrothgar Queen Vlatka, Kahdan spent a lifetime doing her bidding - keeping her safe, fighting her wars, defending her children. Garleans, voidsent, beasts, Eikons - all threats that Kahdan would lay low before they could harm one hair of Vlatka’s head. Many decades passed, with Kahdan never doing a single thing of his own volition or desires - always putting Vlatka before himself.
This life of devotion did not go unnoticed by his Queen, and on her deathbed, she gave him one final command - To release him from his life of service. He was now free - free of guarding her, freed from any wars or causes. Her final command was for him to follow his heart, for the remainder of his days, and feel beholden to none - a command which he took to obeying the very next day, with the same zeal with which he had always followed her words.
Now, he spends his life travelling as the wind takes him, unconcerned with the affairs surrounding him - occasionally helping people he meets, but always because he wants to, and never because he feels he must.

Dahsa

Spoiler Content: Dawntrail (MSQ)

Birthplace: Mehwahhetsoan
Age: 25-30
Occupation: Train Engineer
Interests: Fishing, Trains
Unusual traits: Cursed with extreme attraction and appeal
Identity: Female (she/her)
As a young child, Dahsa was always fascinated by the strangers who came to Shaaloani in search of ceruleum - as a teenager, she would earn some extra coin acting as a guide to some of them, making sure they did not get lost in the trackless desert - coin which she would spend studying as an apprentice engineer.
Once, during her twentieth year, one of the men she was guiding - a mage from Ul’dah - took a shine to her, and offered her beauty for a night with him. She accepted, and was subjected to a powerful enchantment - an enchantment which became more of a curse; one which caused her body to be attractive to that one mage’s standards. Her hair became silky and luxurious, her body curvaceous, and the very scent of her became a point of attraction.
After the one night, the Ul’dahn mage did not want to accept her refusal to go back to the eastern lands with him, and she was forced to flee into the wilderness - and so he was never able to remove the curse. In the years since, she has lived with the curse, unable to change her body no matter how hard she tries, and still giving off a scent that makes anybody who smells it attracted to her - and as a result, she spends her time working as an engineer in the bellies of locomotives and trains, far enough that none can smell her, and wearing thick coveralls to prevent others catching it incidentally.

Vei Thun

Spoiler Content: Shadowbringers (Save the Queen line)

Birthplace: Nagxia
Age: 140-150
Occupation: Cook
Interests: Cooking, Philosophy, Alchemy
Identity: Loosely Female (Any, mild preference for she)
Nearly a full century ago, the Garlean war machine, in one of its campaigns through Nagxia, conscripted a village of Viera - folding them into the Garlean legions as it was wont to do. The young apprentice chef who would one day be known as Vei Thun was sent far afield, to the IVth Legion in Bozja.
Chafing under Imperial command, she held close to her heart the words her mother once taught her as a talisman - "Mercy is the gift of the strong". Always looking for chances to be merciful to the enemies that the Imperials pointed her at, she spared a great many people in her time as a soldier, often defying the orders of her cruel and merciless commanding officer to do so.
One day, having had enough of her quiet insubordination, the commanding officer called her to his office and issued an ultimatum: She would, upon reporting to the front lines, lead the charge into the next stronghold and personally execute the Bozjan leader, or she herself would be executed. Meeting his eye and nodding in understanding, she left his office - and immediately went to the kitchens where she spent her time off-duty, and slipped a large dose of poison into the commander's wine.
If he would not give her the option to be strong, she would be weak - Vei Thun, in her native tongue - and she would start with him. Her skin crawled with the act of so mercilessly executing someone, but she was forced into the issue, and had no choice - so she kept insisting to herself.
Managing to escape Bozja in the chaos of the Resistance, coinciding with the untimely death of her CO, Vei Thun travelled across the sea until she found a place of relative peace - Limsa Lominsa, where she took up studying culinary arts, determined to never again raise arms against another.

Putting her nose to the grindstone, Uzume immediately started to study and refine her skills in every discipline she could find until she qualified with the Retainer's Guild - spending her days working as a Retainer for adventurers, her evenings working as a Blossom for Hana, and saving every gil she can, hopefully without burning herself out entirely.

Lady Noia Pai

Birthplace: Aleport
Age: 40-50
Occupation: Drug Den Owner (actual)/"Rest House Matron" (front)
Interests: Fine teas, Live music, Intense emotions
Identity: Female (Any)
There is a common whisper, in the streets of Limsa - that no matter how stressed your crewmates are, no matter how high-strung or tightly-wound they are, Lady Noia's Rest House can always refresh and rejuvenate them in a single night - and nobody is quite sure if it is through drugs, alcohol, pleasurable company, or some combination.
The truth, of course, is both more and less interesting than the rumours. Lady Noia Pai, quite aside from anything else, is clever - and nearly a decade ago, she stuck a deal with a Voidsent, and has benefited from it since. Given the ability to draw out any emotion with a touch and turn it to a liquid, the Lady - once only a weaver's daughter - found herself setting up a den of iniquity, sampling the strong emotions of all those who sail through the great port of Limsa Lominsa, and selling those she does not keep for herself as incredibly potent elixirs, able to flood the minds of those who imbibe them with the emotion from which they are derived.

Maki

Birthplace: Isari
Age: 30-40
Occupation: Forge Assistant
Interests: Decorative metalwork, Stargazing
Unusual Traits: Passively devours aether
Identity: Female-adjacent (She/her/they/it)
Born in the small fishing village of Isari, the Miqo'te known as Makiko lived a happy life in her early years. Not long out of her teenaged years, she married her childhood sweetheart and had two beautiful children, as well as being granted an apprenticeship under the master artisan Shinto - everything was beautiful in her life, and she was happy.
During a holiday to celebrate her new career, however, she and her family travelled to the faraway land of Ul'dah - and while there, disaster struck. Voidsent, used for the bloodsports in the city of sands, had broken free of their restraints, and attacked the family in the streets. Throwing herself in front of her spouse, Makiko felt the demon's maw close on her very soul and begin to tear, and she thought she was about to die - only to feel the monster torn from her aether by the daggers of a passing rogue.
Initially grateful, she and her family immediately set out back home, but upon the return voyage, a most horrific truth came to light - Makiko's soul had been torn in the moment of rescue, and now it acted like an opened drain, passively pulling all the aether around her down it.
By the time she reached the city of Kugane, her spouse and children had both died more than a week prior, their aether entirely drained away from her proximity. This broke the Miqo'te somewhat, and renaming herself Maki - "kindling" - she showed up to the forge the next morning, ready to do the job that was going to complete her life, and considers herself barely a person.
She now spends her days mourning the losses of her family, hating the rogue who "saved" her, and trying to find what distraction and joy she can, her attitude brusque and harsh to all around her - with the occasional flashes of the happy, friendly woman she once was showing through.

Interests: Swordplay, Combat, Ikebana
Identity: None (Any)
For nearly three decades, the archipelago of Hingashi was haunted by a spree-killer - elusive as smoke, powerful as a thunderclap, and the subject of fear that edged into modern myth, the killer, referred to in hushed whispers in alleys and taverns simply as "Demise", was feared by all. Emperor Reigen, in his wisdom, offered a handsome reward to any who could put an end to the killings, and so issued a writ of execution onto the killer's head, to be carried out on sight.
One of the Daimyo holding land under the Emperor, a young Lord Zashi, had no heir but was clever and attentive, and so formulated an idea - determined to keep his holdings away from the neighbouring Daimyo who wanted to take it from him.
Finding the killer one night, a hair's breadth from being killed, the young Lord Zashi offered the killer a deal - a stay of execution from the net of Samurai and Sekiseigumi that were closing in: If the killer agreed to never leave the Zashi estate, and to train the guards and samurai under Lord Zashi's provenance to be as skilled and powerful as the killer was, then Lord Zashi would use his reward to prevent the death sentence from being carried out.
Agreeing to what seemed to him like an easy life and cushy job, the newly-named Zuki has since trained every single swordsman to pass through the Zashi estate's employ with all the techniques that he knows - but themself makes almost no use of them, finding them to make combat too easy and boring, and getting in the way of seeking "A true challenge."

Age: 30-35
Occupation: Former Adventurer, Presently Retired
Interests: Homebrewing, Whittling
Unusual Traits: Infected by Ruinous aether, unable to cast any magic other than Ruin magic
Identity: Female (she/her)

When the High Seraph was defeated, her aether dissipated - but a not-insignificant portion of it found its way into Ras's own aether, touched by Ruin as it was. Ever since, the Hrothgar has found that her magick all is that of pure Ruination - she can no longer heal or protect with her aether, instead only annihilating whatever touches her aether. Birthplace: At sea
Age: 95-100
Occupation: Ship Captain
Interests: Gardening, Embroidery
Identity: Female (she/her)
As the child of two sailors, Alitya was born on the deck of the ship Duskstar - considered to be an omen of good luck in her life by her parents. When she was old enough, she eagerly left the ship she'd been born on and purchased her own - a small craft called the Wavekisser that she turned into a shipping vessel, hiring a crew to work for her.
As she passed puberty, she became rather insecure in her appearance - having grown up around other Viera, she found her own lack of bodily development upsetting, taking multiple decades to come to terms with it - eventually settling on a combination of cockiness and envy that caused her to be inordinately proud of her own appearance.

Countess Maëlle d'Escorsi

Birthplace: The Holy See of Ishgard
Age: 25-30
Occupation: Countess
Interests: Duelling, Floristry
Identity: Female (she/her)
Born the fourth child of the Count of House Escorsi - a Lower House of Ishgard - Maëlle always chafed against the way her father acted. The Miqo'te-led House being viewed disfavourably by many Ishgardians, the Count Escorsi doubled down on the racist, xenophobic rhetoric of the city - and so Maëlle always volunteered for the tasks that took her far from the Holy See - overseeing outlying outposts, diplomatic functions in distant estates, and so forth.
While on one of these travels, however, she received a letter from her home - informing her that, in the transition of government that Ishgard had undergone, all of those before her in the line of succession had perished, together with the Count of the House. Saddened by her father's death, and intimidated by the news that she was now unexpectedly Countess, Maëlle immediately returned home and did her best to reshape her life to the image of a good Countess - albeit one that is trying to steer her House into the new age, against the prevailing currents of many factions within it.
What upsets her most is the desire to be able to challenge people who anger her to duels - behaviour unbecoming a Countess, as she is continually informed.
